Legal Design & Compliance Innovation: how we turn legal language into a clear, accessible and strategic experience.

Legal Design & Compliance Innovation

Experience Design.

quo·d and Design Rights have combined complementary expertise to build Italy’s Legal Design hub, backed by real impact and years of experience. A multidisciplinary team that brings together strategic design, legal consulting, visual communication and technology to design solutions that are clear, accessible and business-oriented.

In summary

We help organizations make legal and regulatory content clearer, more accessible and more strategic. We apply design thinking, legal linguistics and visual communication to turn documents and policies into tools for understanding, trust and adoption.

Beyond design, we train company teams to integrate Legal Design into their own processes, creating learning and experimentation paths based on real cases. An approach that turns legal language into an experience that is understandable, effective and measurable, combining technical rigor with communicative value.

The foundations.

The foundations of legal design are rooted in the need to make the law more accessible, understandable and empowering for everyone. By focusing on users’ needs, promoting transparency and embracing diversity, legal design contributes to a fairer, more inclusive legal and regulatory system. Legal design is, in fact, a methodology that serves to promote:

01

Transparency and clarity in legal communication

Clear, well-organized communication free of unnecessary jargon ensures that people understand their rights, their responsibilities and the implications of rules and laws, enabling them to make informed decisions.

02

Inclusivity

Taking into account the different needs of various groups of people, including those with disabilities, low literacy levels or limited language proficiency. Designing legal solutions that are accessible to everyone fosters a more inclusive, non-discriminatory society.

Legal Design & Compliance Innovation

What it means to practice Legal Design.

Legal Design is defined by its ability to put the end user at the center. The entire architecture of the message is built around them. Designing, in this sense, means asking:

01Who will use that document?
02What is their goal?
03In what context will they use it?
04What do they want or need to know?

Areas and streams.

Five areas of work through which we apply Legal Design to different contexts: from contracts to compliance, from legal briefs to team training. Click on each one to discover deliverables, objectives and format.

A service focused on reviewing and redesigning corporate contracts and policies to increase their clarity, readability and reputational value. We apply legal design and plain language principles to make documents easier for people to understand and more effective for the business, without compromising their legal soundness.

Deliverables

  • New version of the contract or policy in plain language.
  • A summary layer or “reading guides” for the most critical sections.
  • Style and language guidelines for future document production.
  • Reusable templates in editable format (Word, PPT, web component).
  • Before/after comparison report with examples of improved readability.

Objectives

  • Improve understanding of key clauses among employees, customers and partners.
  • Reduce the risk of misunderstandings, disputes and requests to customer care or HR.
  • Strengthen the brand’s positioning as transparent, trustworthy and innovative.

Format

A 6–10 week project involving workshops with stakeholders, legal review cycles and testing with internal or external users. The service can be activated on a single pilot document or across a portfolio of contracts and policies.

  • Concise versions and “key facts” integrated into digital touchpoints.
  • Interactive components (accordions, tooltips, FAQs, glossaries) ready for front-end integration.
  • Design and content guidelines for the evolution of future notices.
  • Impact report with examples of user flows, use cases and forward-looking recommendations.

A 4–8 week journey starting from one or more priority notices. Includes analysis of existing documents, co-design with Legal, DPO, UX and Marketing, prototyping and validation with real users or internal panels.

A service for designing legal briefs and procedural documents with high argumentative impact. We use legal design, interaction design and visual storytelling tools to help law firms and in-house legal teams build briefs that are more readable, navigable and memorable for the decision-makers involved.

Deliverables

  • Content and stakeholder map with corresponding reading paths.
  • Reorganized version of the brief with modular structure and highlighted sections.
  • Low-fidelity prototype of the interactive document (wireframes, flows).
  • High-fidelity digital prototype, tested with a panel of expert users.
  • Guidelines for future updates of similar briefs and for reusing the model.

Objectives

  • Increase the clarity and argumentative coherence of complex briefs.
  • Make the document easier to navigate for judges, arbitrators and opposing counsel.
  • Integrate different reading levels for stakeholders with different information needs.
  • Experiment with interactive digital formats that strengthen the effectiveness of the litigation strategy.

Format

An intensive project on a single case or cluster of cases, typically lasting 6–12 weeks. The process includes interviews with lawyers and judges, co-design sessions, rapid prototyping cycles and validation phases, up to delivery of the digital file ready for use in court.
